This year both the High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) and Palm Oil Innovation Group (POIG) hosted booths at the 16th Annual Roundtable Conference on Sustainable Palm Oil (RT16), staffed by the Helikonia team. This year marks a pivotal point for the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and the sustainable palm oil community as the updated Principles and Criteria were adopted at the General Assembly, which reflects new requirements to halt deforestation and to improve in human rights protection. Both the HCSA Steering Group and POIG members have diligently worked to contribute to the Principles and Criteria consultation process over the past one and a half years. RT16 was held at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 12-15 November 2018, with over 850 representatives from the global palm oil industry in attendance, including corporate leaders in sustainability, financial institutions, policymakers, academics, and social and environmental NGOs from around the world.
